Professor Alison Hutchinson is the Chair in Nursing at Barwon Health, a Professor in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Deakin University, and Co-Director of the Centre for Quality and Patient Safety Research (QPS) in the Institute for Health Transformation at Deakin University. As Co-Director of QPS, Alison provides strategic direction for the Centre, comprising approximately 40 researchers studying patient safety, patient experience and workforce development. Alison is the Protocols Editor for journals, ‘Implementation Science’ and ‘Implementation Science Communications’. She has attracted competitive research funding from a range of funding bodies and has more than 200 publications, including co-authorship of several book chapters.

In 2019, in recognition of her sustained contribution to nursing research, she was awarded the title of Alfred Deakin Professor, the highest honour Deakin University bestows upon a member of academic staff. In 2021, Alison was inducted into the Sigma International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame.
