BscEcon, MA, PhD

Honorary Fellow

Dr Tiina Vaittinen is a generalist social scientist specialising in care ethics and global political economies of care based in Tampere University, Finland. She holds a BscEcon and MA in International Relations and PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies, and works across disciplinary boundaries. She has explored issues such as global nurse migration in the context of an ageing welfare state, as well as ethical aspects of dementia care praxis in institutionalised settings. In her most recent project, she has developed a model for holistically sustainable continence care that is socially, economically and ecologically sustainable. This model relates to her passion to develop social and health care systems that fit into planetary boundaries.

Dr Vaittinen contributes to NARI’s program of research on continence care. Her research and interests intersect with NARI’s in relation to a focus on identifying unmet care needs, taboos and hierarchies related to intimate carework and iatrogenic incontinence in institutional settings.
