Paulene Mackell

Senior Research Fellow

Dr. Paulene Mackell is employed as a casual Senior Research Fellow within the Clinical Gerontology division. She is an experienced social worker with a multidisciplinary academic background who has worked in in hospitals, aged care assessment teams and in geographically remote locations. In her role at NARI she has led a range of research implementation projects, including partnering with the Victorian Department of Health to implement their statewide Policy on Improving Care for Older People in Hospital. Paulene also formed a participatory research collaboration that explored how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled art centres keep their Elders, and people living with dementia, strong and connected. Paulene is committed to undertaking relational and creative research methodologies that engage with local knowledge making processes and promote health and ageing, intergenerational connection, and sustainable communities.
