Honorary Fellow

Paulene Mackell is an experienced social worker with a multidisciplinary academic background and an Honorary Fellow at NARI. She has experience of working in hospitals, aged care assessment teams and in geographically remote locations. This includes forming a collaboration that explored how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled art centres keep their Elders, and people living with dementia, strong and connected. Paulene is committed to undertaking participatory research methodologies that engage with local knowledge making processes and promote health and ageing, intergenerational connection, and sustainable communities. She is currently undertaking her PhD through the School of Design at RMIT University.

Pei Wang

Pei assists the research on quality of life and economic evaluation at NARI. He is an expert in quality of life with strong publication records. His research areas include measuring and valuing quality of life, development and validation of quality of life instrument, as well as economic evaluation.
Nina Bowes

Nina is currently the Director of Strategy & Innovation at Uniting AgeWell. They have over a decade of experience in strategy, project management, policy and advocacy. They have a Masters of Social Policy, and will be participating in the AICD course in 2024.
Associate Professor Lucio Naccarella

A/Prof Lucio Naccarella is a leading health systems researcher, evaluator and implementation science educator, with interests in systems change, health system literacy, aged care workforce, care coordination, multidisciplinary primary health care team work, primary care organisations and health workforce reforms, from a policy, research and practice perspective.
Associate Professor Paul Andrew Yates

A/Prof Paul Yates is a geriatrician with Austin Health, Deputy Director of Aged Care Research and Medical Lead for the Residential InReach Program. His clinical and research interests include care of older people at the interface between hospital and community, including residential aged care, and novel approaches to improve outcomes in ageing and dementia.
Alfred Deakin Professor Alison Hutchinson

Professor Alison Hutchinson is the Chair in Nursing at Barwon Health, a Professor in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Deakin University, and Co-Director of the Centre for Quality and Patient Safety Research (QPS) in the Institute for Health Transformation at Deakin University.
Associate Professor Catherine Said

Associate Professor Said is the inaugural Associate Professor Physiotherapy, Western Health and The University of Melbourne, and a program director with the Australian Institute of Musculoskeletal Science. Her research focuses on fall prevention and rehabilitation of older people and people with neurological disorders.
Professor Lee-Fay Low

Lee-Fay is an Honorary Fellow at NARI and Professor in Ageing and Health at the University of Sydney. She is a psychologist who conducts research into dementia, healthy ageing and aged care, with a particular interest in working with diverse communities.
Professor Sigrid Nakrem

Professor Sigrid Nakrem is an academic at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. She holds a MSc in health sciences and a PhD in public health. Her main research topics are patient safety and quality of care, elder abuse, and eHealth, and has teaching competence in related areas.
Associate Professor Samantha Loi

Associate Professor Samantha Loi is an old age psychiatrist and neuropsychiatrist working at the Royal Melbourne Hospital Neuropsychiatry Centre and Department of Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne. Her research interests include ageing, mental health and cognition in middle aged and older adults.
Professor Claudia Cooper

Professor Cooper collaborates with NARI on a number of studies, including PITCH, No More Shame and Moving Pictures India. She leads the Queen Mary University of London Centre for Psychiatry and Mental Health, where she is a professor of Psychological Medicine.
