Our Partners and Supporters Expand By engaging key stakeholders across settings and services in the field of ageing, MARC is able to reach a diverse range of older people, carers, health and aged care staff, communities, universities, policymakers and government entities. MARC is led by the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI), the ‘backbone’ organisation. Find out more about MARC Partners. Our research is funded by financial contributions from the partner organisations and other leveraged grants including the JO & JR Wicking Trust, other philanthropy, donations, and the Victorian Government.
Our Approach Expand Working as a strategic partnership, we are combining resources and expertise to influence policy and practice in Victoria and beyond for the benefit of older people, their families and health and aged care providers and the community generally. It has been widely acknowledged that current systems are not designed to provide optimal support for older people. MARC seeks to actively change this through research and collaboration. All MARC research projects involve multiple partners and representatives, including from our Community Advisory Panel, adopting a co-design approach. To share our knowledge, MARC facilitates educational events and hosts regular public forums to highlight and discuss ageing-related matters to bridge the divide between research, policy and practice. MARC provides research opportunities to clinicians, practitioners, researchers and students who wish to make a difference in the ageing research sector. MARC also provides seed funding to staff of MARC partner organisations to build their skills and capacity in ageing research.
Our Achievements Expand Since 2014, the MARC team has hosted over 47 events, conducted 20 research projects and disseminated information into over 120 settings. Our research and advocacy activities have already led to wide-reaching and sustainable practice change, but there is still more to do. MARC on the Record provides a snapshot of our achievements. Our Impact Expand Listen to some of our members talk about the importance of MARC's work and the their experiences of its impact and the power of collaboration.
Our Grants Expand MARC holds a regular research seed funding round to build ageing research capacity and promote research translation. In 2026, the MARC seed funding program has three major aims: 1. To provide seed funding to those working within a MARC partner organisation to commence or progress a research idea or project. 2. To build ageing research capacity and promote research translation within MARC partner organisations. 3. To provide an opportunity for those with limited or emerging research experience to further their skills and understanding of research processes, particularly ageing research. Applications close 31st July 2026 at 5.00 pm (AEST). Recipients of grants will be notified in early October 2026. Grants will be awarded from a total pool of $40,000. In this round, we aim to fund up to four grants with any one grant being no more than approximately $10,000. Funding is for a period of 12 months. Projects are expected to commence prior to January 1st, 2027. 2026 MARC Seed Funding guidelines for applicants 2026 MARC Seed Funding application form – PDF 2026 MARC Seed Funding application form – Word Find out about previous successful seed funding grants.
