Get to know us Our people Dr Jeew Hettiarachchi PhD, MSc, BSc (Hons), APD Research Fellow Dr Jeew Hettiarachchi is a Research Fellow in the Social Gerontology Division at NARI. She is an Accredited Practising Dietitian with research expertise in nutrition and ageing. Her work focuses on the role of nutrition on muscle mass, physical and cognitive functions in older adults. She holds a PhD in Nutrition and Dietetics and Gerontology from the University of Melbourne (Royal Melbourne Hospital), where her doctoral research examined malnutrition, nutrition interventions, and functional recovery in geriatric rehabilitation inpatients. During her postdoctoral studies at Deakin University, she extended this focus to community-dwelling older adults, managing a randomised controlled clinical trial evaluating the impact of a nut-based nutrition intervention to improve functional capacity. Alongside her research, she has experience in clinical practice, teaching and supervising undergraduate and graduate research students in Sri Lanka and Australia.
