Dr Celene Yap is a Research Fellow at Clinical Gerontology division, specialising in the emergency care for older people. Her work focuses on improving how health services respond to the complex needs of older people during episodes of acute care.

She is a health services researcher with expertise in program evaluation, including realist evaluation, implementation science, and mixed methods research. She has extensive experience across emergency care and a range of acute care settings, particularly with vulnerable patient populations. She also has a long track record of advocating for the minimisation of restrictive practices in hospitals, and has led evaluations of complex health interventions, including the Safewards model in various acute care settings.

Her research interests include optimising urgent care for older people, preventing avoidable hospital admissions, and strengthening transitions of care between hospital and community to support safer, more person-centred care.
