Home About MARC Our research Partners MARC events News Exhibition Contact MARC MARC Connecting Through Language: A Forum on Translation Tech in Aged Care Connecting Through Language: A Forum on Translation Tech in Aged Care, co-hosted by the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) and the Melbourne Ageing Research Collaboration (MARC). This free in-person event invited aged care representatives, researchers, and others working in the translation space to explore the use of translation technologies in supporting communication with older adults from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. The forum featured: Short lightning presentations showcasing current practices and recent work in translation technology within aged care Facilitated group discussions to explore barriers and enablers Networking opportunities and sector-wide knowledge sharing A networking lunch followed the afternoon program. This event was designed for people who have direct experience using or supporting translation and communication for older adults in aged care or health settings including those who; Work in aged care (home care, residential care, or care management) Provide or coordinate translation or interpreting services (including bilingual workers, interpreters, and cultural liaison staff) Work in multicultural community organisations that support older people or their families Are carers or family members of older people who need language support when accessing care Are involved in implementing or trialling translation technologies in aged care or hospital environments With the information gathered from this forum, we are aiming to bring together a group with lived, frontline, and implementation experience to help shape a practical set of guidelines for using translation technology in aged care.
