About the Presenter:

Jolanda Lindenberg is a senior researcher at the Leyden Academy on Vitality and Ageing, a multidisciplinary knowledge center in the Netherlands dedicated to improving the quality of life of older adults. At the Academy, she leads the projects in the research theme focusing on Inclusive ageing. Trained as a socio-cultural anthropologist, together with her team she engages in research, education and projects around ageing well, the social position of older adults, retirement transitions, intergenerational connections, and an inclusive society for all older adults. She is also affiliated to the Leiden University Medical Centre, dept. of Public health and primary care. 

About the Seminar:

Ageism is a worldwide phenomenon that has received increasing attention in the past five years. Evidence is mounting on the detrimental effects of ageism on the health and wellbeing of older adults and its negative effects on societally engagement and intergenerational solidarity. Yet very little attention has been paid to the actual experiences of older adults. This seminar will discuss the ideologies present in the way we approach and frame ageing and old age, by hand of everyday practices and interactions of older adults, their close ones and (health) care professionals. On the basis of these findings, Jolanda will put forward ways to reduce ageism and foster inclusive societies.
