About the Presenters:

Aileen Collier holds a joint appointment with the Research Centre for Palliative Care Death and Dying (RePaDD) Flinders University and the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) as Associate Professor in Palliative Care and Aged Care Nursing.  She has worked as a specialist palliative care nurse in a diverse range of settings and in several countries. Her research program is focused on safety, quality and equity of palliative care. Aileen’s research interests undergird a commitment to her practical work, with moral and pragmatic questions always being anchored to clinical 'realities'. When not at work you’ll find Aileen out in the paddock or on the trail with her horses.

About the Seminar:

This seminar outlines a study that adopted video reflexive ethnography with older people, their informal caregivers and clinicians to understand, interpret and improve upon ‘every day’ polypharmacy and medication safety practices across care transitions. The study drew upon the expertise of older people and their caregivers, as well as clinicians and researchers, to uncover how medication safety is enacted and accomplished in and across different settings. In keeping with ‘reflexivity’ the presentation itself, by sharing visual findings, invites participants into a reflexive space, revealing potentially ‘unseen’ aspects of medication safety.
