Education and training Seminars in ageing Seminar recordings Seminars in Ageing: Healthy ageing and research in Australia’s older migrant population. Healthy ageing and research in Australia's older migrant population Presenters: Dr Fiona Stanway, University of Sydney Watch webinar recording About the presentation Australia has a diverse older population with 37% of people aged 65 years and older born overseas. Many of these older migrant Australians are from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds. However, despite the size of the older CALD population, research on this population has been relatively limited. This presentation will discuss this lack of research as well as some frequent methodological issues in epidemiological research on older CALD adults. About the presenter Fiona Stanaway is a clinical epidemiologist who is passionate about the use of research to address unequal health outcomes between diverse populations. She is convenor of the special interest group for CALD older people of the Australian Association of Gerontology and through this role has recently convened a workshop on CALD data aimed at improving the capture of cultural and linguistic diversity measures and populations in administrative data and national surveys.
