While the prevalence of elder abuse is beginning to be better understood in Victoria, what types of elder abuse are perpetrated, the trends in elder abuse, or even what triggers perpetrators is little known.
NARI has been commissioned by Seniors Rights Victoria (SRV) to understand more about the people accessing the helpline service and the reasons they were calling.
Led by NARI’s director Associate Professor Briony Dow, researchers will use de-identified data to identify the types of abuse being reported and why, the characteristics of the perpetrator and person experiencing the abuse, and the interventions put in place.
“What we hope this analysis will show us, amongst other findings, is whether there is link between the education programs delivered by SRV and calls to the helpline. Are calls being made by people who have been to information sessions, for instance,” Associate Professor Dow said.
