NARI is organising a professional development workshop about how to use the innovative senior exercise park for allied health professionals and exercise instructors.
The workshop will take place on Tuesday 2 April at Barry Road Community Centre in Thomastown.
Associate Professor Pazit Levinger, Project Leader, said the workshop was ideal for people working with seniors, and who wanted to learn more about how to use the newly construction exercise park properly.
“It is the latest design in outdoor exercise equipment, integrating multiple stations specifically designed for older people to improve strength, balance, flexibility, mobility and function,” Associate Professor Levinger said.
“We want to encourage allied health professionals and exercise instructors to make the most of this equipment as part of their programs to encourage older people to be physically active in the community.”
The half-day evidence-based workshop includes how to recognise the impact of lack of physical activity in older age; to understand the beneficial effects of using the senior exercise park equipment; to use the equipment safely; what exercises can be prescribed and how to progress them; and how to run a group exercise class.
All participants will receive morning tea, workshop materials and a certificate of attendance will be provided.
