NARI has made a submission to the Victorian Government about gender equality.
The submission highlights the many different ways in which older women’s rights are often ignored, in policy, funding and ageist attitudes.
Issues outlined included elder abuse, financial abuse and poorer health.
Dr Sue Malta, Social Connections and Relationships Stream Leader, said the government review of gender equality was important: “Gender inequality affects women in all areas of their lives, including sexuality, work, and pay.
"Women retire with just over half the superannuation savings of men. Older women are more likely to be homeless, and so the issues mount up.”
