Director, NARI Board

Derek McMillan is a current Director and former Vice-President of the NARI Board. He is Managing Director of Centennial Living, an operator of retirement villages since 2019.

Prior to founding Centennial Living, Derek was Chief Executive Officer, Independent and Assisted Living at Australian Unity from 2005-2017, an organisation supporting residents of retirement villages and residential aged care, and clients of in-home care and disability services. He has held Executive and Board positions in Health and Ageing organisations since 1999 including at Australian Unity, the Property Council of Australia and Leading Aged Services Australia – Victoria.

Dr Bronwyn Dreher

Dr Bronwyn Dreher is a Research Assistant in the Clinical Gerontology Division at NARI. She is a registered Physiotherapist, with over 20 years of experience. Bronwyn’s current role is focused on supporting older people to maintain and improve their mobility and level of function, including through exercise.

Janice Besch

Janice Besch is a Director of the NARI Board. Ms Besch is the Chief Executive Officer for the Australian and New Zealand Society of Palliative Medicine. In conjunction with this appointment, which is on a part-time basis, she provides consultancy advice independently and as a Senior Consultant with Outside Opinion.

Professor Danny Liew is a Director of the NARI Board. He is the Dean of Medicine and Head of the Adelaide Medical School at the University of Adelaide.

Associate Professor Michael Murray AM, is the President of the NARI Board, the medical director of Continuing Care and head of Geriatric Medicine at Austin Health, Associate Professor at Melbourne University and Adjunct Associate Professor Australian Centre for Evidence Based Aged Care, La Trobe University.
Richard Gallina

Richard Gallina brings over 15 years of hands-on accounting and leadership experience to his role of Director and Treasurer on the NARI Board. He currently works as the Group Financial Controller at Partners Wealth Group and is a member of Chartered Accounts Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ).
Professor Briony Dow

Professor Briony Dow is Director of the National Ageing Research Institute and Honorary Professor at the School of Population and Global Health, University of Melbourne and Honorary Professor, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Deakin University. Briony leads a range of both aged care and social and clinical gerontology research programs.
