News News Agreement between Deakin University and NARI to strengthen ageing reserach in Victoria 9 August 2019 A Memorandum of Understanding between the National Ageing Research Institute (NARI) and Deakin University will deliver solutions for older people through new approaches to research and education. The MoU, signed today, will see both organisations achieve shared goals through working together on research, higher degree supervision and education and training. NARI and Deakin University have a strong relationship through the Melbourne Ageing Research Collaboration, where both have been actively involved in research projects. Associate Professor Briony Dow, NARI’s Director, said that the MoU will further build this relationship, drawing on each organisation’s strengths. Deakin University is known for being innovative and having a practical, hands-on approach to teaching and learning. NARI’s mission is to bring research to life, improving the health and wellbeing of older people through research. “Clearly there is an alignment, our shared multidisciplinary approach is important in the field of gerontology where more than ever we need to find solutions through working together to foster new ideas,” Associate Professor Dow said. Deakin’s Acting Executive Dean for the Faculty of Health Professor Maxine Duke said the agreement would enable even greater opportunities for collaboration between the two institutions. “This opens up opportunities for much larger scale research, bringing researchers together from a variety of disciplines to address some of the wicked problems facing the aged care sector,” Professor Duke said. “By matching health expertise in areas such as nursing, psychology, physiotherapy and occupational therapy, to skills in economics and even architecture, we can help develop innovative and practical solutions to areas like dementia care and falls prevention.” Manage Cookie Preferences
