As Australia’s longest standing and only independent medical research institute specifically focused on ageing, NARI has decades of experience in aged care research, advocacy and education.

This paper shares NARI's position on the recommendations of the Royal Commission relating to the need for systemic reform of home care to ensure its long-term sustainability and effectiveness.

NARI supports the Commissioner’s recommendation that the system of aged care should be needs-based, not rationed, and that funding needs to be better distributed so that it is allocated in a more cost-effective way. The Government must continue its strong focus on transforming the system of home care well into the future so that every older person in need of care at home is able to receive it, when they need it.
