MARC Falls Project

The first collaborative project funded by MARC is now underway. This project tackles the challenge of preventing falls in hospitals, a key concern for health services, health professionals, older people and their carers and aims to develop and implement a customised falls prevention plan in hospital settings. Falls in hospitals are associated with longer length of stay and poorer functional outcomes for those affected so finding interventions that work is vital.  This project involves implementing and testing a falls prevention intervention that is based on locally derived data, rather than using the more traditional “one-size-fits-all” approach.

The aims of the project are to develop and implement a customised falls prevention plan in hospital settings using local data, and to improve staff knowledge and perceptions of falls prevention strategies and embed improved clinical practice.
